Wolfert Lansing is a secondary school for vmbo, mavo and lower classes havo in Bergschenhoek. The school places considerable emphasis on personal attention and guidance. In order to accommodate the growing number of pupils and to continue to guarantee the high level of education, Wolfert is realizing a new building designed by cepezed and cepezedinterieur on the plot next to the temporary accommodation.

groen-blauw landschap 

De school is het eerste gebouw in deelgebied De Beeldentuin, waar kloeke bouwvolumes ‘op een sokkel’ komen. Deze worden losjes maar samenhangend ingebed in een groen-blauwe, landschappelijk ingerichte omgeving. Aan het zuidoostelijk eind hiervan staat nu al prominent het nieuwe, alzijdige schoolgebouw. 

Aan de noordoostzijde van de school wordt een bestaande waterloop langs de provinciale weg doorgetrokken en vergroot, wat het autonome karakter van de school straks nog verstevigt. De andere gebouwzijden zijn begrensd door groenstroken en een riant schoolplein.

innovative concrete construction system 

In the transparent plinth, Wolfert Lansing can display the diverse practical areas and the culture and dynamics of the school. The upper-floor façades have strip windows and, in a number of places, transparent curtain walls from floor to ceiling. This achieves an optimal balance between daylight, views and flexibility of layout. The Corten steel spandrel panels fit in well with the esthetic masterplan, which specified saffron colours. They also contribute to an industrial character, which is continued in the interior.

The supporting structure consists of the innovative CD20 concrete construction system with prefabricated columns and floor slabs, which allows very fast, efficient construction. In addition, the supporting structure can be flexibly arranged and easily extended to ensure future value.

daylight-rich atrium and clear organizational structure 

Wolfert Lansing has a central atrium, long sight lines and a great deal of natural light coming into the building. This all contributes to the spatial quality of the essentially compact building. The atrium is the dynamic heart of the school and is programmed as an assembly hall including a practice restaurant, a large grandstand staircase and informal study places.

The upper floor plans are clearly organized in rings. The innermost ring is formed by the atrium. Surrounding it is a ring with the main access, adjoining the common functions such as the learning plazas and service functions. The outer ring consists of the classrooms along the façades. This arrangement means that the dynamics in the building gradually run from lively at the heart to quiet in the classrooms. In keeping with secondary-school education, the interior has a robust, functional and industrial atmosphere and aesthetics, using concrete for the construction and wood for, among other things, the large staircase.
