A new care wing will be built within the walls of the penitentiary institution in Scheveningen. In this design by cepezed and cepezedinterieur, patient, staff, safety, circular construction and the environment are central. Due to the design and construction, the construction meets very strict nitrogen requirements of 0.005 mol N/ha/year.

green environment
The nearby Meijendel dune area is cleverly extended in the exterior design and interior. The painting 'Panorama of Scheveningen' by Mesdag provided inspiration for cepezedinterieur to a balanced color palette. These calm natural tones, in combination with warm, wooden interior parts and a view of greenery, ensure faster recovery of patients. Due to the hillside, the designed dune landscape provides privacy thanks to the natural demarcation. This also makes it a pleasant working environment for staff.
safety first
The design meets all safety requirements that apply to a Judicial Center for Somatic Care, with the emphasis on physical care. For example, all rooms have large breakout-resistant windows without bars, with a view of greenery. Unnecessary risks such as elevator transport are avoided by separating three single-layer care wings. As a result, personnel do not have to walk across other departments and the sightlines are also excellent. The two-storey main building contains all the necessary facilities, such as a pharmacy, waiting areas, outpatient clinic, etc. Not only the safety of personnel, but also that of the offenders is monitored in this way.

environmental standards
The entire care complex covers a gross area of 3,300 m2. The penitentiary is located right next to the Meijendel and Berkheide nature reserves. Due to the very strict nitrogen requirements, a logistics construction hub was chosen, a few kilometers outside those areas. Just like the construction workers, all prefab parts are transported to the construction site via electrical transport. There the lightweight prefab parts can be assembled quickly (and dry). This way of working means that the strict standard for nitrogen deposition of 0.005 mol N/ha/year can be achieved.
