Genmab

Showpiece 

Our design for the new Genmab had several ambitions: to give the company greater visibility, increase interaction between employees and encourage collaboration with external partners. The building was also intended to become a showpiece to attract top researchers.

The result is a striking, cleanly styled and detailed building. It is located directly on the main access road to the Utrecht Science Park.

Layout Genmab Utrecht 

The building has an open structure with large spans and long sight lines. Above ground, it has two five-storey bays with an atrium in between. There is an underground parking garage that extends over the entire footprint.

The extensive facilities programme is mainly housed on the ground floor. The meeting centre, auditorium and café can be found here, but also a gym, bicycle parking, storage areas and waste rooms.

Genmab’s atrium 

Surrounding the atrium on the first floor are functions such as a coffee bar and an open kitchen with front cooking. In the office bays, meeting spots are situated along the atrium; most fixed workspaces are located along the façades. The upper three storeys accommodate both offices and laboratories. Their greater height makes their arrangement flexible: offices can become labs and vice versa.

Floating islands 

Eye-catchers in the atrium are the large islands of over eight metres in diameter. They are positioned like stairs and seem to float in space. On the islands there are spots for meeting, discussion and flexible working.

Scandinavian design 

The interior of Genmab Utrecht is light, uncluttered and stylish; ample use has been made of wood and other natural materials. Corridors are optically widened by partly allowing their floor finish to continue into the transparent office spaces. In terms of sustainability, the new Genmab has the BREEAM-Excellent certificate.
