The façade is closed and the scaffolding inside has come down. The new town hall for Buren is almost there: a timber municipal pavilion in Maurik. Where the open load-bearing structure was visible before, the building now reads as a whole. Completion follows this summer.
Across from the existing town hall by Alberts en Van Huut, cepezed has placed a low pavilion in the green of the estate. The new building is energy-neutral and as bio-based as possible. The existing park and open water are largely retained. Parking sits among the greenery and the building is approachable from every side, with a first glimpse of the council chamber already visible from the driveway.
council chamber
The double-height council chamber forms the heart of the building together with the work café and looks out over the park. Its glazed façade carries the coat of arms of Buren. Above the chamber sits the timber roof with its diamond pattern and skylight. The carpet will refer to the meandering river landscape of the surroundings. There is room for 23 council members, and a folding wall connects the chamber to the work café. For a wedding, the couple takes a seat on a bench in the central circle.
façade and interior
A timber band of bamboo runs around the building. Above it, an aluminium roof fascia closes off the façade. Inside, cepezedinterieur keeps the base calm, in warm tones and natural materials, so that the timber of the structure sets the tone. The identity of the municipality returns in the interior: a film on the glass shows the villages of Buren, and an existing stained-glass window from the old town hall is given a new place in an illuminated lightbox by the work café.
