The former Philips Natlab in the Strijp S district of Eindhoven is where the compact disc and DVD were developed, among other things. cepezed was commissioned to transform this illustrious building, in combination with new build, into the SintLucas College Eindhoven, a secondary school for creative-technical and entrepreneurial education.

Cultural connection
The structure of the ensemble is based on the original development of two elongated two-storey strips of buildings with a series of pavilions on the north-west side of each strip. On the south side, the strips are connected by a building block which houses NatLab (formerly Plaza Futura). SintLucas Eindhoven has a strong interaction with this cultural organization.
Unity with individuality
Under the SintLucas school motto ‘Seeing work, encourages work’, cepezed has brought a great deal of transparency into the building. Other important starting principles were an exciting spatial experience and plenty of daylight. The new and existing buildings are clearly distinguishable and visibly each has its own characteristics and value. At the same time, they form a single entity in a natural way.

Creativity on the inside as well
Our design for the school in the creative heart of Eindhoven Strijp-S was aimed at achieving a real creative community within the school as well. The spatial design consists of a coherent and well-considered sequence of functions.
SintLucas Eindhoven has a wide diversity of rooms, ranging from theory classrooms, practical areas, consultation areas, interview rooms for the teachers and individual study cubicles to the building’s large communal heart.
The beating heart of SintLucas Eindhoven
Access to the existing building and the high-rise new-build in between is organized from the multifunctional heart of the building. It functions, among other things, as a restaurant, exhibition space, auditorium and performance hall.

Inner street to the outside world
The new middle zone is completely focused on cross-fertilization: with other students, but also with the outside world. For example, a commercial street has been included with a print shop equipped at a high level for both students and external parties. The creative studios for photography and AV editing, for example, can also be rented by external parties outside lesson times.
