central atrium 

The new Coenecoop College consists of two rectangular, flexibly divisible educational volumes, each of three layers, with a transparent central atrium in between. The volumes are slightly offset from each other. The atrium, with the entree, slightly stands forward, like a welcoming gesture. 

village school 

The atrium connects the two volumes with classrooms and functions as an assembly hall and main access point. A wide staircase with wooden steps forms a cohesive whole with a playful grandstand with seating. The atrium can be rented out independently in the evenings and at weekends, which contributes to the intended character of Coenecoop College as a “village school”.

healthy learning environment 

Coenecoop College provides a healthy learning environment with a pleasant atmosphere. Sightlines are long, which aids orientation, and the greenery of the surrounding grounds is continued with plants in the atrium and other areas. The largely transparent façades contribute greatly to the relationship between inside and outside. The gas-free educational building meets the requirements of both Frisse Scholen (Fresh Schools) and BENG (Nearly Energy Neutral Buildings).
