Kayi completed her degree in Building Engineering at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where she developed a particular interest in building physics, modelling and the management and process aspects of BIM. During her internship, Kayi focused extensively on optimising and standardising technical drawings. This motivated her to specialise in parametric design and Python programming during a minor. For her graduation research, Kayi investigated the application of BIM in the planning permission process at the Permits Department of the Environmental Agency of Midden-Holland.
What attracts Kayi to cepezed is its innovative approach, particularly the use of parametric design within projects. She sees plenty of opportunities to further develop her skills at the intersection of design, technology and efficiency. During her studies, she also encountered Building D(emountable) and the temporary courthouse in Amsterdam as part of her research into demountable construction. These cepezed projects taught her a great deal about reversibility and circular construction. ‘The interest these projects sparked in me was one of the reasons I applied to cepezed,’ says Kayi.
While Kayi gained most of her experience in small teams during her studies, she now has the opportunity to work in larger teams on larger-scale projects, such as the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Within this project, she combines modelling with BIM coordination. ‘I enjoy being given the responsibility of ensuring that all models comply with the agreements set out in the BIM protocol,’ says Kayi.
In her spare time, Kayi enjoys travelling. ‘I find it interesting to experience other cultures and see how architecture and construction methods are approached in different countries.’
