Jamal van Kastel

Jamal has been working at cepezed since 2024. His calm appearance and agility make him a pleasant and worthy addition to the team.
241031 MG 3795 Lucasvanderwee

Jamal completed the master's degree in Building Technology at Delft University of Technology, where he focused specifically on computational design. For his graduation research, Jamal investigated how computational design can contribute to designing energy-neutral buildings. He developed a digital method that automatically generates a large number of design variants and compares them in terms of daylight, thermal comfort and energy consumption. In an interactive environment, all these variants are visualised, allowing designers to make smarter design choices.

Since graduating in 2018, he has been working as a computational design specialist. He sees his approach to computational design blend well with cepezed's DNA. At cepezed, he wants to further develop and apply this methodology, in order to realise even smarter and more sustainable projects together.

The efficiency in cepezed's designs strongly attracts Jamal. He finds demountable design and construction an interesting approach to sustainability. He hopes to make this his own. 'My motivation is to design sustainable buildings, with innovative approaches and design concepts, such as the 'kit of parts method',' he says.

Besides cepezed, Jamal works approximately one day a week as a guest lecturer at TU Delft. Here, he teaches bachelor and master students more about Design Informatics.
