Daan completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Delft University of Technology. During his Bachelor’s, he spent six months in England as part of his minor. During his Master’s, he worked for a year as a student assistant at IGG Bouweconomie, gaining a deeper understanding of the financial side of the construction industry.
For his graduation project, Daan designed an archive for the Flanders Architecture Institute in Antwerp. The result was a modest extension that addressed several existing issues at deSingel, while also responding more effectively to the urban context and the existing listed building. He graduated in June 2025, making cepezed the first architecture practice he has worked for.
What appeals to Daan about cepezed is the high value the practice places on the user experience, combined with its neat, clean architecture. The attention to detail and the search for efficient solutions, both in the design itself and in the process, fit well with the way Daan likes to work.
Alongside his work at cepezed, Daan spends a lot of time drawing, as well as exploring fashion and furniture design. ‘I find it interesting how even the most minimal and abstract sketches – not necessarily architectural ones, but also from other disciplines – can communicate so much about form, movement, composition and emotion.’ He enjoys experimenting with this skill and developing his own style, which he then brings to his work at cepezed. This is particularly useful during the tender process. ‘I find it very motivating to see a quick sketch reappear at a later stage of a design.’
