cepezed's design for the 13.000 m2 revitalization of the Van Maerlantlyceum in Eindhoven is now well in the Technical Design phase and is currently being put out to tender for implementation. Through the website Aanbestedingskalender.nl, interested parties can submit for three lots: architectural, electrical installations and mechanical installations.

The Van Maerlantlyceum is 100 years old now. The revitalization consists of a modern extension combined with renovation of the partly monumental existing building. The goal of the renewal is both an increase in capacity and an optimal connection to contemporary education under the motto 'learning from and with each other'. The building will soon make an important contribution to this and will offer students and teachers an environment in which they can develop to the best of their ability. The renovated building will contain many different types and scales of spaces, which offer a suitable place for every type of activity; ranging from calm and quiet for studying to open and cozy for breaks and gatherings. Where the old building has a fairly closed character, the new sections open up to the environment and show many of the activities inside. Particular attention has been paid to the integration of the whole into the park-like environment.

Sustainability also plays a major role in the project. For example, the new sections naturally meet all the standards for a Nearly Energy Neutral building, while the existing building will be given a radical energetic upgrade. New frames and glazing will be installed and the facades and roof will be fitted with additional insulation. All this while preserving the monumental image. In addition, the design includes many measures for ecological water management. The renovated school will also substantially generate its own energy, while generous daylight will contribute to a healthy living environment and the interior will of the school will be lush with greenery as well.
