diamond-shaped timber for buren town hall

251204 MG 2915 Lucas van der Wee

Lucas van der Wee

Next week, the new town hall of Buren in Maurik will reach its highest point. This milestone highlights how the demountable timber pavilion is settling into the park. The rhythm of columns and beams, the generous spans and the refined structural lines are already clearly legible after only three months of construction.

From the very first pile, the assembly of the load-bearing structure has progressed smoothly. The timber beams now form the characteristic diamond-shaped roof pattern that will spatially define both the double-height work café and the council chamber. Large glazed façades provide daylight and views, while the generous all-round canopy gives the building its pavilion-like presence.

low environmental impact
The sustainable principles of the design are clearly visible during construction. The hybrid structure is fully demountable, the building is compact and the roof will host PV panels. The timber load-bearing structure and floor elements contribute to a low environmental footprint. The interior has also been designed with future use in mind: existing furniture from the current town hall will be reused. cepezedinterieur additionally designed the reception desk, pantries and a multifunctional furniture element for the council chamber.

Thanks to all partners involved for making this possible: Gemeente Buren, Bouwbedrijf Osnabrugge B.V., Van der Bijl & Heierman B.V., Gebr. Janssen, Nikkelen and Rijksen Speciaal Timmerwerken.
