The construction of the International School Almere reached its highest point thursday. That moment was celebrated with alderman Maaike Veeningen, contractor Van Norel Bouwgroep and architects cepezed. The building will accommodate some 700 international pupils aged 4 to 19.
prepared for growth
The new building will merge two existing functions, a primary school (4-11 years) and a secondary school (11-19 years) currently housed at separate locations. At the same time, the building will be more efficient and easy to expand in the future. The International School Almere (ISA) is thus prepared for growth to 1,000 pupils. The municipality of Almere is responding to the increasing demand of expats who want to send their children to a modern, accessible international school.

The new school building consists of three parts. The primary school and the secondary school are located in the wings of the complex. The wing for the youngest children is a low-rise building with green outdoor areas, while the wing for the youngsters is three storeys high. The middle section forms the beating heart of the building and houses shared facilities such as the auditorium, library and gymnasiums. The ISA also has music studios in the music room, a dance room, a room for 3D design and a room for environmental science studies. Because the different age groups have their own learning environment, it remains a convenient, small-scale and pleasant school for each group.
tough and friendly
The building looks tough because of the visible steel construction. But thanks to the daylight-rich design and the furnishings by cepezedinterieur, it will soon feel like a very friendly environment that, moreover, is enclosed by a green oasis. The completion of the building, commissioned by Van Norel Bouwgroep, is scheduled for February 2023.
