Until September 22, a model of the cepezed-designed Moreelsebrug in Utrecht is part of the exhibition "Fahr Rad - Die Rückeroberung der Stadt" in the German city of Flensburg. The port city near the border with Denmark is putting the bicycle on the center stage this summer and has organized the Flensburger Fahrradsommer 2021. The exhibition is part of this and can be visited in the Robbe & Berking Museum.
In 2018, the exhibition was already on display at the Deutsches Architektur Museum in Frankfurt. The Robbe & Berking Museum supplements it with substantial parts of the collection of one of the largest European bicycle museums, the Deutsches Fahrrad Museum in Bad Brückenau. In addition, it organizes lectures, film screenings and events around the bicycle throughout the exhibition period.
The exhibition shows, among other things, current developments in cycling infrastructure in cities such as New York, Oslo, Copenhagen and, evidently, Utrecht. The Moreelse Bridge in Utrecht has a major positive influence on mobility and connectivity within the city. For a long time, the wide station area was a physical barrier between the city areas on either side. Since 2016, the cyclist and pedestrian bridge has formed a pleasantly functioning connection with a high experiential value. The design is elegant and the trees on it render the bridge a pleasant place to be and a resting point within the busy urban environment. Also due to the fully transparent balustrade, the bridge offers a beautiful view of the city as well.
