The city of Delft is showing what innovation it has to offer. What began as a column in the local newspaper de Stadskrant has resulted in a real exhibition in the hall of the municipal office. Ten Delft innovations can be admired here until October 12th, including Bouwdeel D, cepezed's prototype of a circular, remountable building.
'What is thought up in Delft today, will be applied tomorrow to make the world more pleasant and sustainable', that is the idea of the Techtalk page in the Stadskrant. The ten best examples from the newspaper have now been combined into an exhibition. The innovations range from a coffin made of mushroom roots to an energy-saving coating for horticultural greenhouses or, as said, the prototype of a completely demountable building.
In innovation, expertise is relevant, but so is collaboration. That is why cepezed chose to show Bouwdeel D (Building Part D), a joint project of cepezed, cepezedinterieur, cepezedprojects and cepezedbouwteam. With Bouwdeel D, the developer cepezedprojects investigate the idea of a building as a product. In this case, a product aimed at 'permanent temporariness', which creates an entirely new business model.
Bouwdeel D is in fact eminently circular. After being disassembled, the separate building parts can be transported to be reused elsewhere in a different way, or be 'remounted' in exactly the same way. This is precisely what happened with the Temporary Court of Amsterdam, another outstanding example of cepezed's innovative character. Both projects show that cepezed finds answers simply by doing. Who, for instance, is responsible for what and when? And how does the ownership of a demountable building work?
It helps that cepezed has regarded architecture as a kit-of-parts since its founding. Initially with the idea of improving product quality, later also from the viewpoint of sustainability. Bouwdeel D shows exactly what cepezed is capable of with almost fifty years of expertise, experience and pioneering spirit. Bouwdeel D has been carefully designed and its construction principle has consequences for the general construction and demolition business, but also for urban planning, real estate financing, investors and users. The prototype literally stands in cepezed’s backyard, on the Nieuwelaan in Delft.
The Techtalk Exhibition is on display from July 18 to October 12 in City Hall Delft, entrance Coenderstraat. Open on working days from 8.30-17.00 hours, free entrance.
