Construction is progressing at Laan op Zuid in Rotterdam on the new education facility for Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and Stedelijk Lyceum Rotterdam. The highest point has now been reached: the shared sports roof.
4,000 students
Together with the internal street, the closed and open double-height corners, and the yellow stair running along the façade, the sports roof will soon define the distinctive character of this school. The façades also stand out: they are composed of bamboo lamellas. From 2027 onwards, almost 3,000 students and 800 secondary school pupils will share the building.
the essence of education
In the design, we sought a balance between shared relation and identity. This required us to articulate the essence of education: clear routes, plenty of daylight, a sense of belonging, and well-functioning classrooms. The two schools are positioned more or less on top of one another. The distinctive stair with landing forms the lyceum’s own entrance, while the internal street is intended for both schools – and even for local residents.
