Yesterday, 20 June, Marien van der Meer (vice president of Operations and member of the Executive Board of TUDelft) officially opened the Department of Logistics and Environment's new building. The building's special function - procurement, storage and distribution of laboratory supplies, chemicals and gases for TU laboratories - is reflected in its surprising architecture.
'It is an honour to be able to open this special building today. The Department of Logistics and Environment is indispensable for TU Delft, both now and in the future: it is literally the basis for facilitating research and education on the campus,' says Marien van der Meer.

The building stands out with its curved green roofs, earthen walls corten steel sliding gates. It is designed with nature and climate in mind. The curved roofs are planted with vegetation that matches that of the surrounding polder landscape. The fencing required for security is barely visible on the overgrown slopes.
The new building consists largely of renewable or recycled materials. On the roof are solar panels with a potential output of 89,000 kWH. The use of a lot of glass, despite the closed nature of the building, ensures an open look and optimal daylight entry on the workplace. The new Logistics and Environment building contributes to TU Delft's sustainability goals, with the ambition of operating entirely sustainably by 2030.
