The new building of Plus Ultra Amsterdam reached its highest construction point yesterday. The upcoming completion of Plus Ultra Amsterdam marks the development of the Medical Business Park. This area is part of the Amsterdam Life Science District where healthcare research companies can locate near the Amsterdam UMC. By mid-2023, Plus Ultra Amsterdam will be ready for use.

The municipality of Amsterdam chose Kadans Science Partner and cepezed to develop the first building of the future Medical Business Park. More companies will settle around Plus Ultra Amsterdam who can use the expertise present in the field of medicine for research and technological developments in healthcare.
design
The design focuses on flexibility in using the floor space. This design builds on the philosophy of Plus Ultra buildings in Utrecht and Leiden, where cepezed also collaborated with Kadans Science Partner. Furthermore, the building has a high, open and transparent plinth. This open, friendly base stimulates the exchange of knowledge and expertise, as encounters become natural. Adjacent to this will be a sunny terrace. There will be virtually no car traffic around the building, because parking is included below ground level. This leaves more space for greenery.

The ambitions for sustainability are high. From the Amsterdam municipality, many nature-inclusive aspects are requested, including integrating bird and bat boxes in the façade, collecting and using rainwater and covering the façade and roof with PV panels. Kadans Science Partner also aims high, applying a requirement of BREEAM-excellent for new buildings. The sustainability guidelines of the City of Amsterdam and Kadans Science Partner combined make a score of BREEAM-outstanding very realistic. This makes the new Plus Ultra building a sustainable example for further developments at the future Medical Business Park.
