cepezeds jasper manders wins architenten challenge

Nieuws 2019 06 04 architenten challenge d

Jasper Manders (31), architectural engineer at cepezed, is the winner of the first ArchiTenten Challenge! The originally six-member jury judged the 66 entries on spatial creativity, innovative character and sustainable user value. Manders was already elected as a finalist at the end of April. cepezed partner Ronald Schleurholts was initially also a member of the jury, but when Manders came strongly into the play already during the first deliberations, he withdrew from further elections.

Manders may now realise his Inside out There design in collaboration with Karsten Tenten. The result will get a place of honor at the Lowlands festival in Biddinghuizen, which takes places this year from August 16th to 18th. Jury member and Lowlands director Eric van Eerdenbrug: “This winner is an enrichment for the festival’s camping landscape: it’s an innovative tent, which can also be configured into a collective tent. A sustainable alternative, also for the many disposable tents that are left at the campsite every year.”

The Inside out There is a two-person festival tent with an easily inflatable construction. No guy ropes are needed and only a few rogue pegs. The tent has a higher and lower side and can be opened on both ends, so that air circulation for cooling is created automatically. Also nice: you can lie, sit and stand in it. Moreover, it’s possible to join the tents in such way that a common interior space is created. Such a configuration for ten people (five tents) is now being realized for Lowlands.

The winner and the other two finalists will present their design during the Architecture Now that BNA and Pakhuis de Zwijger organize on June 11th. See the website of Pakhuis de Zwijger for the program.

The ArchiTenten Challenge is an initiative by Lowlands and the BNA (Royal Institute of Dutch Architects). The design contest challenges architecture students and young architects up to age 35 to design the coolest tent ever for the nicest campers in The Netherlands: the Lowlands campsite guests. For BNA, the ArchiTenten Challenge is a small-scale, playful way to generate attention for the power of design related to the sustainability or our lives.
