cepezed is pleased to have been commissioned for the Collectiecentrum Overijssel, a project in which (sustainable) technical ingenuity, safety, a high-quality working environment and cultural heritage come together. From 1 July onwards we will start working on the design within an integrated team.
experience
Collectie Overijssel urgently requires new accommodation. The depots at the current locations in Deventer and Zwolle are almost full, the climate systems are outdated and energy costs are high. A central location offers the opportunity to house all archives and the organisation in one place, make a major step in sustainability, facilitate researchers and encourage the public to visit. We were awarded the commission based on our vision and experience with Collectiecentrum Nederland. Equally important were our approach to collaboration, project methodology and spatial integration.
collectiecentrum overijssel
The new Collectiecentrum will be located in the Havenkwartier in Deventer, an area that is being transformed into a dynamic district for culture, living and working. The building will accommodate the archives and collections of Collectie Overijssel as well as those of the Athenaeumbibliotheek, the oldest municipal library in the Netherlands. Collectie Overijssel is a collaboration between the municipalities of Zwolle, Deventer and Ommen and the national government. Director Vincent Robijn indicates that the commission attracted significant interest from architectural practices, resulting in strong and relevant submissions. “We really had something to choose from,” says Robijn.
modern collection management
The new Collectiecentrum will be a sustainable and efficient shared facility for Collectie Overijssel and the Athenaeumbibliotheek. It will comply with the legally required conditions for the management and preservation of archives and collections, provide good public access, offer space for researchers and ensure optimal use of the knowledge, expertise and capacity of staff. It will be a future-proof place with room for growth and modern collection management in line with the highest standards.
We look forward to working again with Nelissen Ingenieursbureau, Zonneveld Ingenieurs and Multical. The detailed design (DO) is expected to be completed by mid-2027.
