Police Rotterdam-Rijnmond
The Rotterdam-Rijnmond police complex is located on the Veilingweg, beside the A20 motorway. cepezed made the design for the large-scale renovation, modernization and expansion. We paid a great deal of attention to sustainability in this project.

Police station without public function
The complex does not have a public function, but houses offices, archive and storage areas, a large company restaurant and an auditorium. It also accommodates garaging and workshops for the fleet of vehicles. Finally, there are sports and training centres for both theoretical and practical professional skills.

Attention for sustainability
A great deal of use has been made of existing qualities. The buildings can also be flexibly arranged and extended. Through stacking and multiple land use, we have also been able to create extra green zones on the site.
The renewed complex has been designed as compactly as possible and the former fragmentation of functions has been eliminated. As a result, the circulation routes are as efficient as can be. Thanks to well-considered sight lines and a clear and straightforward transport artery, the complex has good orientation possibilities.
Functional separation
The more confidential zones within the building have been grouped together and are well screened from the more public functions, such as the restaurant and auditorium.
The stairs are attractively positioned and encourage people to use them, which contributes to a healthy working environment.

Efficient layout
The climate control is divided into zones based on the types of rooms and use. This makes a considerable difference to the requirement for technical installations and the corresponding energy consumption, maintenance and operational costs.
Most installations are housed in a separate building volume, so that they do not cause any noise pollution. Fire walls and security limits are combined wherever possible, which has spatial advantages and means that double use of materials is not necessary.
Large roofing elements, which can be installed in one go, including the interior and exterior finishing, have been used for parts of the building.

Greater visibility from outside
The former white tower has been completely renovated and has an entirely glazed façade on the motorway side. This not only brings in a lot of natural light, but also provides a good view of the activities inside. It represents a contrast with the rest of the complex, which has a rather closed appearance. The enormous spiral staircase that connects the floors is very apparent.
