3 main functions 

The green walking path from the boulevard continues in stages up to the third floor, as the route is optimised for daylighting. The building is divided according to its 3 main functions: laboratories, office/meeting rooms and the main route. The layout progresses from as open as possible to increasingly closed areas. A large and inviting atrium forms the beginning of the stepped main route. Alongside laboratories are situated and the route provides so called experience zones. Technology and service areas are located deeper in the building. The top floor provides workplaces with a wide variety of office and meeting spaces as well as flex spaces, team spaces and focus and brainstorm areas.

The experience zones can be used for a meeting or just a talk with a colleague or customer. There is a good view of the work process, without disturbing the researchers. The transparent walls allow visitors to have a good look at the laboratories. The research mainly concerns the analysing of yeast, but the Sunlight building is also concerned with optimising plant-based dairy products. Test panels in the experience zones assess new products for taste, smell and mouth feel.

healthy work environment 

Daylight is carefully tailored to its use: floor-to-ceiling windows that bring daylight deep into the building are alternated with strips with integrated solar panels. This way, we create a pleasant and healthy working environment on the one hand, while on the other, the facade contributes to low fossil energy consumption. Lush plants and the interior finish of natural materials such as wood, bamboo, roughly woven fabrics and warm colours will also make it a pleasant place to be. All and all the aim is to create a building as sustainable as possible with a healthy working environment in the broadest sense. To achieve this, we are working to achieve the BREEAM-Outstanding as well as the WELL Platinum certificate.
