The new Cambreur College High School in Dongen will house the education levels for general secondary education, senior general secondary education and pre-university education (in Dutch mavo, havo, vwo). The new building will be realized behind the current main building at Monseigneur Shaepmanlaan in the town of Dongen, which will eventually be demolished and make way for a schoolyard, park and bicycle storage. The new building forms a compact three-volume concatenation. The educational wings contain the practical and theory rooms. The sports department integrates two existing gyms that are being renovated and extended with an extra gym and dojo. Finally, the building heart serves as a hall, canteen and connecting link.
The setup is simple and offers a clear, transparent and inviting educational environment. The design is focused on a unity and coherence within which the different departments each have their own domain. Much attention is paid to a coherent and well thought-out concatenation of spaces. Common functions such as the Science, Art, ICT + D & P sections are located on the ground floor around a green patio garden. The auditorium will be fitted with a multifunctional staircase that can function as seating as well.
The general secondary education, senior general secondary education and pre-university education departments each have the same spatial organization in the new building, each with its own learning plaza as an identity bearer. Together with four classrooms, the learning plazas form the dynamic learning environment of the school. In addition, the new school will also include traditional educational areas with larger classrooms that are suitable for different types of teaching methods.
The start of the phased construction is planned for 2019. Spring 2021 the new school will be put into use.
