Last Wednesday July 24th, the temperature in The Netherlands reached a new record and at the same time the topping out of the new A-pier was celebrated at Schiphol! In the presence of more than 200 guests, Schiphol and construction partner Ballast Nedam/TAV Construction raised the flag together. Also, a special bonus was handed to the construction workers. With the topping out, the three-storey pier is another step further in its realization.
André van den Berg, commercial director of the Royal Schiphol Group, gave a speech and called the constructive framework ‘Technical Lego’ for grown-ups. He is convinced that the A-pier sets a new standard for airports. Van den Berg also paid attention to the good mutual cooperation between the (construction)partners and proudly called them ‘the A-team’. Project manager Devrim Omer of Ballast Nedam/TAV Construction also gave a short speech in which he praised the energy on the construction site. cepezed and cepezedinterior are part of the international and integral design team coordinated by AECOM.
To meet the dynamics of an airport as Schiphol, the ultramodern pier has been designed with as much flexibility as possible. Eight new gates will soon accommodate both narrow-body and wide-body aircrafts. The building is also suitable for the simultaneous processing of various types of passenger flows; Schengen, Non-Schengen, screened and unscreened. For a strong relationship between inside and outside, maximum daylight application and a great experience of spaciousness, the entire façade consists of highly insulating glass. In terms of sustainability, use is made, among other things, of biomaterial, recycled plastic, 5.000 m² of solar panels, rainwater for flushing toilets and aquifer thermal energy storage for cooling and heating.
