The construction tendering for the upgrade and expansion of the cepezed-designed MECC Maastricht has been completed. The contract is granted to Mertens Bouwbedrijf from Weert in Limburg. The construction activities will start in June.
The municipality, province and MECC foresee that the total engineering-designed metamorphosis will lead to more conferences and a larger spin-off for both the city and the region. And thus to a greater economic value. The project also enhances Maastricht’s image as a city of congresses and as capital of Limburg. The interventions also boost the area development of the Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus, which includes MECC.
The modernizations concern the expansion and renovation of the congress center with its two auditoria and the revitalization of the entrance zone and the Forum Passage. Previously, the car parks were already upgraded. Where the congress center can now receive a maximum of 3.000 people at the same time, this will be 5.000 after the renovation.
