SintLucas, location Eindhoven, has been nominated for the Dirk Roosenburg Prize, and will compete as one of ten finalists for the title best architectural project in Eindhoven in 2017.
cepezed, in collaboration with engineering company Arup, transformed the former Philips NatLab-building into a new SintLucas College for creative-technological and entrepreneurial studies for lower and intermediate vocational education.
"The nomination committee was especially impressed with the way the designers implemented the motto of SintLucas “seeing work, makes you work” in an open public-friendly school building.
The school literally puts her education in a window display at the Torenallee on Strijp-S. This results in a lively atmosphere in and around the building. The committee also appreciated the orientation of the school building, the stimulating, differentiated spatial experience of both existing and new architecture and the entry of daylight combined with great transparency. The new and the existing are clearly distinguished and each has their own distinctive identity,” according to the jury report.
The biennial award is given by the municipality of Eindhoven and organized by the Architecture Centre Eindhoven. The prize that has been granted since 1989 has been named after the architect who did a lot for Philips; Roosenburg designed among other projects the NatLab building.
In September, the jury will visit the projects and after a public voting round, the winner be announced on Friday 27 October, at the end of the Dutch Design Week.
