cepezed has been elected Architect of the Year 2012 in the category Large (more than 15 staff members). The jury consisting of project developer Rudy Stroink, architect André Kempe and editor in chief of the international architecture magazine A10 Indira van ‘t Klooster, announced this this afternoon during a gathering in the Materia Inspiration Centre in Amsterdam. The panel calls cepezed examplary and innovative and was especially impressed by the professional approach of both the office process and the design projects and of the achieved knowledge regarding construction techniques and costs.
cepezed initially featured on a long list based on nominations by the collective Dutch architectural professionals, who characterized cepezed as "strong in translating a complex assignment into an effective building". From this long list, the jury selected four offices for the short list. The same procedure was followed in the category Small (less then 15 staff members). All nominees on both short lists subsequently submitted files with descriptions of their dealing with themes such as strategy, sustainability, innovation, the development of knowledge and the treatment of customers. Additionally, they had conversations with the jury, which among other things was of the opinion that cepezed "time and time again shows astonishing solutions of magnificent simplicity".
In the category Small, the jury elected the Rotterdam-based office ZUS. In contrast to other editions, the overall Architect of the Year does not come forth from one of the category winners this time, but is one of the other contestants in the category Large, the Amsterdam-based Concrete.

The Architect of the Year-election is an initiative of Architectenwerk, which set up the competition for the sixth time this year. During the first edition in 2007, cepezed was also one of the nominees.
